Who Serve(d) in the United States Marine Corps
The modern Navy benefits greatly from the ubiquitous
presence of Marines. There was always a Marine detachment
on Navy bases I entered. They were the base protectors,
especially evident at all access points. Even aircraft
carriers had a Marine detachment, primarily associated with
the Captain and any admirals onboard.
The Marines have maintained a "big brother"
relationship with the Navy long after they were needed
to protect ships and their officers from common sailors,
who generally came from the dregs of society and were
thus difficult to control. This former squid would now
like to show his appreciation for this time honored
guardianship with a heart-felt: (Semper FIdelis = always faithful) |
